German and American scientists announced on 19 February 2014 that they had discovered a particle that is extremely small. They have named this particle ‘quantum droplet’ or ‘dropleton’. A US journal says that this particle behaves much like a water particle and is made up of many small particles. Scientists believe that this discovered particle can play a significant role in the development of nanotechnology. In particular, the role of dropleton will be unique in the production of photoelectric components. The scientists’ research shows that while the emission power of an ultra-fast laser is 100 million per second, the vibration of ‘quantum droplet’ is 2.5 billion per second. This proves that dropleton is a more stable particle.
According to quantum theory, energy exists mainly in the space between an electron and a hole. Even if an electron is supposed to be there, it is not found. Quantum dots are basically made up of five electrons and five holes. Scientists claim that this particle has some liquid-like properties. Quantum mechanics is a branch of physics that deals with microscopic matter and its properties. This branch discusses the structure of atoms. A group of scientists from Germany and the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, led by Steven Cundiff, a physicist at the University of Colorado, worked together on this study on quantum dots.
